Tunnel to Towers

At Brewer Carpet One Floor & Home, supporting our community is a huge part of why we love to be your local flooring retailer! We strive to be involved in many types of events, and one that we continuously enjoy participating in and supporting is the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation. This Foundation honors the sacrifice of Stephen Siller, one of the many amazing heroes who lost his life while saving others on September 11, 2001.

There are many programs in the Foundation, and the one that we love attending every year is the 5K Run & Walk in Oklahoma City. The reason why this race is significant is because of its symbolic nature. The 5K puts you in the footsteps of Stephen Siller, who had just finished his shift and was on his way to golf when he heard about the plane hitting the North Tower. Stephen called his wife, asked her to let his comrades know that he would catch up with them, and then headed back to get his gear. As he drove back toward the towers, he realized the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel had already been shut down for security purposes. Rather than giving up, Stephen decided to strap 60 pounds of gear on his back, ran through the tunnel to the Twin Towers, and began helping others as quickly as possible. It was on that day that he lost his life in the line of duty.

Today, the race lives on in his memory and supports the Foundation. Programs like the Smart Home Program, where smart homes are built for our most catastrophically injured service members benefit from these 5K runs all over the country.

We invite you to join us at the next T2T run and walk event! Keep an eye out for the date, time, and location of the next event to participate in next year’s race.
